When you want to bring the whole family or a bunch of your friends on your next bike adventure the Apex XT 5 bike rack is one very good option, providing great quality and 5 bike capacity at a reasonable price point. It represents the highest quality bike carrier you can get in a hanging type of rack.
Thule's Apex range of bike racks have tool free fitting, fully integrated locks for bikes and the carrier, premium cradles, and a taller mast height. It all adds up to another great carrier from Thule.
Up to five bikes can be carried easily, with a weight capacity of a maximum 17kgs per bike and a total capacity of 68kg, so note that you can't load 5 bikes if all are 17kg. The Apex 9026XT allows 13.9cm of distance between bikes to reduce the chances of any bike-to-bike contact. This allowance combined with an integrated anti-sway system makes it better for your bike's finish than some other bar type carriers. However, we recommend tray style carriers should this be a concern to provide ultimate safety for your bikes, easier loading, and easier fitting of a broader range of bike varieties.
Please note, it isn't advisable to hang a carbon-framed bike directly on the frame due to the risk of damage to your finish. This may be overcome with the use of a bike frame adaptor such as the Thule 982XT, which is also applicable if you have a bike that has an unusual frame design without a top tube.
The 9026XT also features Thule's HitchSwitch tilt-down lever system, allowing easy access to the rear of your vehicle, although you can't use this system with your bikes loaded.
It fits both 1.25in and 2in hitch receivers, and installation to your vehicle is an easy task with Thule's SnugTite Stinger attachment system, which includes a lock, please refer to the fitting instructions for more details.
The use of a lightboard with this carrier is recommended to maximise safety and legal compliance.
