Kuat's Sherpa offers a brilliant light weight bike rack loaded with features in a sleek minimalist package.
The Sherpa is a hitch mounted rack which fit 2in (50mm) size hitches and has a carrying capacity of two bikes with a weight of up to 18kg for each bike. It's very versatile also as it can fit bikes of any frame design as it secures your bike via the front wheel, and is able to accommodate bikes with wheel diameters of between 25in and 29in. However, for 20in to 24in diameter wheels the use of an adapter is required part #016-025-00-00, (one is included with the bike carrier though). The maximum wheelbase allowable is up to 47in (119cm) and maximum tire width is 3in (7.6cm).
In our view the first and most notable feature of the Sherpa is its all aluminium construction, which brings very light weight combined with high strength and incredible durability. The carrier itself weighs only 14.5kg, making it easy to handle for most users and allowing it to be fitted to smaller vehicles without a worry. It has a gloss metallic powder coated finish so it looks great too.
The carrier features a foot lever operated folding feature so it can either sit flat against the back of your vehicle in an upright position when not in use or easily lowered into the horizontal position, ready to load your bikes. It also has the ability to tilt the carrier when loaded to allow easy access to the rear of your vehicle. The fold-flat wheel cradles are a nice thought too so that it has no protrusions when in the upright position, allowing it to be fitted to a wider range of vehicles.
It's suitable for carbon framed bikes too as there is no frame contact when mounting your bike to this carrier, and the wheel clamp is adjustable for various wheels sizes. For bike security this carrier includes a semi-integrated lock system which consists of a cable lock which clicks into an integrated lock on the carrier itself. The rear wheel cradles have a co-moulded wheel strap for better wheel finish protection.
Fitting the carrier is a tool free operation with a hand-tight hitch cam system, for more details on installation please refer to the instructions below.
